MESMERIST

For almost a decade, Christopher Hoef has absolutely loved Electronic Dance Music, and has been producing EDM for about 6 years. This is somewhat remarkable considering that he's only a 20-year-old college student 

 

Originally having gotten into EDM around 2007 by listening to acts like Basshunter and Daft Punk, Chris now takes inspiration from House Music producers like Avicii, Zedd, Cash Cash, the Swedish House Mafia, and deadmau5, all while enjoying additional experimentation as part of the production process.

 

Chris went by the producer name ZedZee for a couple of years before the emergence of other electronic music acts named Zedd and Zed's Dead. He took the name Mesmerist after having taken a course on the History of German Science, and learning about Franz Anton Mesmer, who worked with animal magnetism. His followers were called Mesmerists, and Chris thought the name sounded cool. The name took on further meaning to Chris once he became interested in Spritism, of which the work of Anton Mesmer was a main inspiration.

 

Mesmerist is a member of the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom and frequently makes Sonic Remixes under the name Mesmerist the Cat. One of his tracks was featured on sonicstadium.org's compilation, The Sonic Music Adventure 2012. Five tracks from Mesmerist the Cat will be included in this year's installment, The Sonic Music Album 2013 & Knuckles.
